The Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference (ALMAC) 2023, co-organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, was held on November 21-22 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The conference brought together more than 14,000 participants from over 50 countries and regions, including logistics, maritime, air freight and supply chain management services providers and users, as well as manufacturers, traders and distributors, to exchange market intelligence and explore business opportunities in the region.
The theme of this year’s conference was “Future-proofing Supply Chains: Diversification, Decarbonisation, Digitalisation”. The conference featured over 90 speakers from various sectors and backgrounds, who shared their insights and experiences on how to cope with the challenges and opportunities brought by the changing global environment, the COVID-19 pandemic, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement, and the latest technological innovations. The conference also showcased over 50 exhibitors, who displayed their products and solutions for enhancing efficiency, sustainability and resilience of supply chains.
One of the highlights of the conference was the keynote speech by Mr. Edward Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government, who emphasized the strategic role of Hong Kong as an international logistics and aviation hub, as well as a gateway to the Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road markets. He also announced that the Hong Kong SAR Government would launch a HK$2 billion Green and Sustainable Aviation Development Fund to support the aviation industry in reducing carbon emissions and adopting green technologies.
Another highlight was the panel discussion on “The Future of Air Cargo: Innovation, Collaboration and Sustainability”, moderated by Mr. Daryl Tay, President of North Asia District at UPS. The panelists included representatives from Changi Airport Group, SATS Ltd, DHL Express, and Marine Jet Power Holding AB, who discussed how the air cargo industry can leverage digitalization, automation, electrification, and collaboration to enhance operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and environmental performance.
The conference also featured various thematic sessions, workshops, and business matching activities, covering topics such as e-commerce, cold chain logistics, smart logistics, green shipping, maritime arbitration, aviation finance, and more. The participants had the opportunity to network with potential partners, customers, and suppliers, as well as to learn from the best practices and case studies of leading industry players.
The ALMAC 2023 was a successful event that provided a platform for meaningful conversations and connections among the logistics, maritime, and aviation stakeholders in Asia and beyond. The conference also demonstrated the strengths and advantages of Hong Kong as a regional and global logistics and aviation hub, as well as a facilitator of trade and investment. The next edition of the ALMAC will be held in 2024.
